GLOPEX / SPECIALIST FINANCE ENQUIRIES
Share-backed lending
Discuss a borrowing enquiry secured against eligible shareholdings. We start with the securities, ownership and any restrictions that could affect whether a lender can accept them.
Describe the holding and its restrictions.
Identify the company or securities, whether they are listed or private, the approximate holding value and where the holding is custodied. Explain any transfer restrictions, lock-ups, existing pledges or shareholder consent requirements.
Private and secondary shares need a specific review.
A shareholding does not automatically qualify as collateral. Valuation, liquidity, transferability and a lender’s ability to enforce security can affect whether a route exists. Include the amount required, borrowing entity, location and intended use of funds.
Understand collateral risk.
A fall in collateral value may trigger a requirement for more collateral or repayment. Pledged shares may be sold if the agreement allows it, including when its conditions are not met. Ask about valuation methods, thresholds, notice periods, voting or dividend rights and lender enforcement before accepting terms.
UK, USA, Canada and UAE enquiries.
GLOPEX welcomes international enquiries. Select your country and tell us where the borrower and asset are located. A service described on this website is not necessarily available in every jurisdiction; we review the relevant market before discussing a potential route.
Your questions, answered.
Can private-company shares be considered?
You can submit an enquiry, but acceptance is not assumed. A lender would need to review the shares, restrictions, valuation and transaction structure.
Does borrowing guarantee I can keep the shares?
No. The lender may have rights to sell collateral under the agreement. Review these rights and the circumstances that could trigger them.
